William C. Thwing

Songbird

In the Monastery where I served, Sister Caroline would ring the bell in the Cathedral tower each day – not as a duty but as an act of devotion. After her passing, I would ring the bell occasionally as the Spirit moved me. Then, after several weeks, another monk also began to ring the bell. The Abbot questioned our efforts. I defended the other monk saying, “I too am Caroline”.

Nightingale sings on
From her belfry tower nest
Spring is in the air.
