Illumination


From within or from behind, a light shines through us upon things, and makes us aware that we are nothing, but the light is all.

Moving from her apartment, then to assisted living, and now to skilled nursing. The view isn't pretty – a parking lot, a few low utilitarian buildings, and the nearby highway. Saddened, I turn away.

"But it's the light that matters, you see," she says, reaching for my hand.
