In the rich and storied history of Barbie, there have been thousands of different looks and special editions. This Christmas, our daughter's new multi-pack of Barbies contains an anomaly – a man Barbie. Maya is five years old, and until recently only understood that Barbies come in one gender. We notice her disgust as she asks us his name. We tell her his name and she returns to playing with her Barbies, trying to forget the blatant intrusion on her sisterhood.
