Angelee Deodhar

Poseidon

As a child I had an old biscuit tin full of trinkets – a small empty bottle of perfume, fancy hair clips, color pencil stubs, toffee wrappers twisted into butterfly shapes, animal erasers, marbles, beads of every size and shape, but my favorite was an articulated fish keychain. I loved the way it moved, the way it caught the sun just so and when I put it in water it seemed to come alive.

Rummaging in the attic of our old house, my grandson found the rusted biscuit tin and the fish, tarnished now but still able to take me to the bottom of the sea.
