What is a Lake

... the water, with or without light glancing on the surface, playing in the shallows. The shape of the earth, bowled or furrowed, the fish. A mesh of patterns, cycles, lives, one man fishing on the shore. The grey of sky, weighted by the glide of a pelican's belly flying low just so above the water. The ridges around, the sound of surf beyond the dunes, the signs explaining the place. The people who come and call it thus, pitching tents amongst the ducks and the kangaroos. A dream. A made-up place. You … pointing out one crow preening another as the children play …

'blended family'
a game of hide 'n' seek
in the sand dunes
