Priscilla Van Valkenburgh

Witness

I stop at a traffic light in Montpelier, Vermont. On the sidewalk a woman is running away from a man. Turning, she shouts at him. Even with the car windows closed I understand. She's mouthing, "I don't love you anymore!" It's so clear, so shocking. Then the light changes.

fall foliage—

burns itself out
