Neighborhood Mindfulness

Early morning chill. On the front porch, I'm guarding my elderly cat. The striped stray cat bully is on the loose.

Trucks rattle, sirens blare and the cats run off into the Boston Ferns.

A tree fern is agitated. Its lacy leaves bounce up and down, then move into an undulation. At last, they are still.

The neighborhood coughs into another day.
