Essence

The incense creates a haze that engulfs the altar area. The liturgist's chanting causes it to move away from his mouth in small, staccato waves. The music starts and the waves in front of the liturgist move to the front of the organ pipes.

The Greek word "pneuma" means both "breath" and "spirit". No spirit, no breath. No breath, no spirit.

Before leaving the sanctuary, I enter the columbarium and kiss my fingertips. Then I use the same fingers to touch the name plate on her crypt. Saying goodbye one more time.
