Cherie Hunter Day
Monochrome
fairytale
the princess wakes up
with a kiss
Three heads pop up in the passenger's side window of the 1949 Buick Roadster Sedan. A Fulton Sunvisor provides a little more shade in the cotton field for these girls, too young to pick cotton. The youngest, a toddler with large brown eyes, is just tall enough to see out of the window. Her pudgy left hand hangs out as she shifts her weight to balance against the car door. The cuff of her sweater isworn and soiled from playing in the dirt. She looks straight at the camera. A slight frown registers as tiny lines on her forehead at the beginning her non-existent eyebrows. The two girls behind her are four or five years old and have dreamy looks on their faces.
