A Letter to Wei Ying-wu

as I sit at my desk during another day of office work I am reminded of you and your government posts and your frustration with reports and your longing for the countryside and the leisurely life and I imagine us relaxing on a distant blue peak beside a small crystal stream beneath a few old pine trees where we enjoy fellowship and wine and toast to all that passes away happy that our songs remain

midwinter
patches of old leaves cling
to their branches
