Donna Buck

Month Three

A ranch overlooking the Sorrento Valley. Sunny afternoon. A pair of newly-painted Adirondack chairs on the cozy deck, gifts to her husband. Mint and basil in planters on the railing. The bird feeder sways.

The hairdresser arrives with shears, a cape and two lattés. The napping golden retriever opens a curious eye as gray curly strands fall softly onto the wooden slats. A chic wig rests on its styrofoam base.
