Matthew Caretti
Brothers
When he learns I am an English teacher, Brother Luke recalls Mrs. Swanson, his ninth-grade teacher of the same subject. She had said to him, "Stories are problems. Without a problem, you've got no story." We lived a while. Our stories grew in number, and with them a need for reflection, a bit of solitude and brotherhood. We join forty-odd others at Vigils. Truth doesn't come easy. But it arrives in kindness, in the abundance of austerity and in wonder.
