Bruce Ross

The Willis

The second act of the ballet has the atmosphere suggestive of Noh plays, a darkened graveyard with rolling mist illuminated by faint light. The spirits of dance-loving brides who died before their marriage begin to dance. The one who was betrayed by the now-repentant Count Albrecht saves his life for intruding upon the ghost world by dancing with him until dawn. The spectral Willis hover in the dreamlike darkness as she dances with her human lover.
