I landed on EBay, surfing for matchbooks—a Google accident. Lucky me, I picked up a seductive collection of match covers for $9.99 plus shipping from a power seller. "Buy it now," no less. I couldn't control myself. When the tattered brown package came, I picked out all the matchbooks that said YOU CAN FINISH HIGH SCHOOL. I glued gold glitter on the strike stripes. Very sexy. At two in the morning, I struck one after the other, held each out to an imaginary cigarette, leaning into the night.
