Reading Mary Oliver by car light, my brain still stiff with sleep, I think I need a cup of coffee but decide to walk down the beach instead...

first light
the rabbit’s breakfast
undisturbed

The mallards’ hearty splashing celebrates the new day. Footprints in the sand have shifted to non human circles, as if this beach has only ever had hoofed visitors.

disappearing behind reeds
ducks’ murmur
