(a response to Lee Ji Youn’s acrylic on canvas journal 01 and journal 02)

on black slate
rosy hints shade pale curves
what bubbles beneath

On a satellite image of igneous contours, twin fish curve to gaze each upon the other.  The southern lava pool and her watery northern brother, each finally at rest in its respective pit, release their steamy breath.

The layers of cooling landscape exhale heavily, Olympians at the end of the race for which a lifetime’s training has prepared them.  In the sliver of a second between broken tape and displayed results, only the heaving breath and throbbing pulse resound.  

All else is silence.
