Busy Signal

The school phone is eternally busy, and he won't answer his.
So I must wait for the call ... and my accounting ...
He left this morning without a word. I had barked at him,
but he just walked away, silent, then the door clicked shut.
Inconsequential now what it was about as I listen
to another news flash on the local radio station
of the bus wreck, and of children who may have perished.

after the screams
a cell phone rings
