A Color So Blue
Tell me about the redwoods, how they grow so tall and strong, clustered together in rings like houses for fairies. Tell me about the sky, how it peeks through the trees in a color so blue it hurts. Tell me about you, about when you were a child. Did you ever lie on your back in a field of flowers or cool grass, looking up into the vastness of the universe? Did you name that vastness, did you call it blue, or clouds, or god? Or did you simply lie there, letting the musky smell of earth and plants and sky wash over you in a wave? Tell me, did you ride that wave, or did you become it?
the whiteness
of moonlight
on crashing waves —
who sends me
this life raft
