Cynthia Anderson
Golden Boy
The tanned, curly-haired caretaker lives in a trailer by the oak grove. He doesn’t have a phone. So, when I wake up wanting to see him, I leave my cabin in the foothills and ride my bike clear across the valley, singing, hoping he’ll be around.
We sit and have tea, or visit the trees, beguiled by the twinkle in each other’s eyes. We hug, our touch electric. In truth, my boyfriend stands between us, but I don’t care. I would leave him in a heartbeat for this potter and philosopher, destined for more than menial chores.
