Wrapped Up

I shuffle along the shore, hugging my sweater close and steeling myself against a Nor’easter’s gale. Whipped sand stings across my cheeks. A bit of snow swirls near the berms. Just beyond the beach, waves crash against a pier, gnashing at the town’s harbor like a triggered guard dog. But animals—even the gulls—are silent now, tucked away until the first sign of spring’s return.

a slate sky
hugs the horizon
winter blues

snowed in
she stages a revolt
knitting
an army of hats
in riotous colours
