Sunlight Doesn’t Linger Over Much

At the end of the day, it’s a relief to make it through the nomenclature of hard surfaces. The heat and bristly humidity are enough to make anyone think stupid thoughts. Boredom, no, it doesn’t rise to that level of abandonment. Everything is thirsty: redwoods, rhododendrons, salal, ferns. Crows and squirrels have found the lowest sprinkler head on the line and visit it regularly like a public water fountain, where the water comes out cold from someplace far away.
