Bryan D. Cook
Creature Comfort
Feed the cat, grab my espresso and newspaper, snuggle into the corner of the couch. It’s my comfort zone and mine alone! None other will do. I watch the sparrows raise their brood in the nesting box outside the window; spy on the comings and goings in the street, doze to the tick-tock of grandma’s clock, and meditate before the horrors of the day. Anxious if a visitor sits in it. Perhaps I’m being unwittingly primeval… finding safety in a cave, marking territory, asserting dominance, and having a vantage point to spot imminent danger.
