The volume comprises three individual “chapbooks”—Chenille and Other Poems by Davis, Salvaged by Woodward, and One and Twenty Brief Asides by LeBel—each featuring 21 poems. Although all three authors have written acclaimed haibun and tanka prose, only Davis’s chapbook includes either of those forms. She offers 6 haibun and 8 tanka prose (in addition to several tanka sequences and a free-verse poem), while Woodward and LeBel present primarily free verse. Regardless of form, all of the poems reflect the authors’ distinctive voices and styles that have earned them renown.

Peter Newton’s latest collection features 136 haiku (including those in an autobiographical “Author’s Note” sequence that begins with his birth in Detroit) as well as 22 haibun. Newton’s work has earned multiple Touchstone Awards from the Haiku Foundation, and several of his books have won merit awards from the Haiku Society of America. This latest collection once again displays his mastery of both haiku and haibun. From the Publisher: “Peter Newton is a well-known haibuneer, who has said that “writing is a kind of wealth.” It’s true, and readers are the beneficiaries. His newest collection, A Room Inside the Rain, is sure to be an instant classic and is indeed pure haibun and haiku gold.” —Cherie Hunter Day

By Andrew Riutta
Red Moon Press
Westminster, Virginia
2026, paperback, 138 pages
ISBN: 978-1-958408-91-9
$20 USD
Ordering Information

Andrew’s Riutta’s previous book, Blessed: Modern Haibun on Almost Every Despair, won a Merit Book Award from the Haiku Society of America and was shortlisted for the Haiku Foundation’s Touchstone Award. This new book contains 118 haibun delivered in Riutta’s signature voice, one that’s full of honesty, compassion, and hard-earned wisdom. From the Publisher: “Shadowed by memory and regret yet illuminated by hope and tenderness, Andrew Riutta’s snow drifts like flames moves through a landscape of porch lights and starlight; dark woods and dark matter; moth dust and wood stove ashes; cold burnt coffee and soft pine shadows… Though deeply concerned with mortality, the collection is ultimately grounded in grace rather than despair.”— Terri L.
