Black Cockatoos

each day
a slower walk …
the pulse
of our blood still steady
the joy in each moment

We step side by side on the flat paved path beside the shore. As we round the point into a head wind, morning stiffness is easing, our strides lengthen, picking up the pace, we cut down a side street towards our local coffee shop. The staff knows our order, two large flat whites extra hot. Waiting for our order we watch the locals.

raucous calls
fill our sunshine morn
black cockatoos
boisterous as boys
on their way to school
