C.X. Turner
The iridescence is hidden
when the tide goes out. I stroll steadily along the shingle beach, my hair woven with imagined pearls from the sea, while the sea foam squashes between my bare toes. The cliffs loom above, layered and craggy, sheltering hidden caves. It dawns on me – I haven’t walked along a coast without rocks for several years now. Somewhere along the way, I’ve learned to embrace the ruggedness of the land, to find beauty in its sharp edges. I walk through the sea foam, no longer looking for soft sands but finding peace in the wildness of it all.
spring walk
along the water's edge
shifting light
I once dreamed of swimming
with a mermaid’s grace
