A Sweet Sleep

Past midnight, in my small study room, I turn off the light and contemplate in the teacher’s chair. Would my status as a bride elevate my chances of being loved?

warm waves—
throbbing in my forehead
this uneasiness
when you take my hand
and speak of her loss
