Exposure
Tucked into the corner of a long wooden bench, I take off my coat and spread it beside me as a tablet. Words spill from my pen. Looping cursive lines spread down the sleeves and across the bodice; dozens of rows of script edge the hemline. My mother says, “Foolish girl. How will we escape the Nazis with your words in plain sight?”

Rita Moe is a poet, a knitter, a gardener. Her poetry has been published in Water~Stone, Amethyst Review, Mad Swirl, and other literary journals.
