Ripples

on the brink
amongst driftwood and litter
waiting for you

The blue on blue of Lake Lyell is tainted green. Wind-blown algae masses where the wash and bank meet at the western end. Three grey speckled ducks are paddling near the sloping gravel edge. I watch as they dive in turn, ripples spreading across the water. A sudden gust sends the ducks flapping into the sky. Turning I make my way upwards through spindly gums.
