Her hair drifts down and spills onto the floor.

He watches as his wife’s hairdresser fingers her curls. Watches the hairdresser’s hand linger on the nape of her neck.

Later, as she lies sleeping he turns and brushes his lips against the back of her neck and kisses her. Stroking her hair, he separates the strands between his finger and thumb, removes a small pair of scissors from beneath his pillow, and snips a lock.
