Stars Turn Blue

As she does a perfect cartwheel, my best friend Sabine reminds me of a star.

"I love you because you remind me of a star" I say.

"I love you because you tell me I remind you of a star" she says.

"I love you because you tell me you love me because I tell you I love you because you remind me of a star" I say.

"I love you because you tell me you love me because I tell you I love you because, wait" she pauses, confused.

We lie on the grass, laughing.

"I wonder if stars turn blue" Sabine muses, "so they can sleep until they wake to shine."

"I love you because you wonder if stars turn blue" I say as a sunbeam shimmers on her golden hair.

our toes touch the sky
