After waking, I turn over and he stands in the doorway, hands braced on the frame. Not that disease-riddled man, but the one who set a corner post that would have taken three men to lift. A man who boned out venison hindquarters with the skill of an artist. A man who could quiet our newborn daughter. A man who was my husband for fifty-one years.
