Cynthia Anderson
Misty Isle
I didn’t see much of Skye on my one visit there 50 years ago. It was March, grey with drizzle and rain—so dismal and cold that my college friend and I left the next day for the relative comfort of Edinburgh. One souvenir remains: a small, delicate white shawl, never worn, buried in a drawer, lonely as a cloud. And a vague memory of the old woman who sold it to me, her hair as white as the crochet itself. Like the woman I’m becoming now.
