Adelaide B. Shaw
Inheritance
She is the strong one who gets us through the Depression, the War years and the move three thousand miles across country. She is the rock that doesn’t crumble when there are shortages, when work is slow and money is borrowed to buy groceries. She is the steady, calm one when Dad has night terrors and fainting spells because of stress and worry. She is the part of me that gives me strength and the determination to stand fast against life’s unexpected storms.
that which is seen
that which is tallied,
counted in a ledger
are naught to what is bestowed
to the heart and spirit
