When Wires Get Crossed

Life goes down so much better
with a good strong drink; to swallow reality
one needs a strong drink. There’s an odd syncopation
in my worn heart. For the blues,
I need a soothing sing-a-long drink.
In the evening when darkness suffocates
my dreams, I challenge myself
to a game of beer pong—Drink!

In how many languages
can you count to ten?
Is it the number of gins
or just the wrong drink?

Sunrise is a glaring promise to be broken.
My excuses join me for another strong drink.

there once was a lime
squeezed into a coconut
happy hour
my death poem shaping up
to be a limerick

Note: No brain cells were destroyed in the writing of this tanka prose.
