Deadlines

After decades of following a set schedule, I’m free of deadlines. Even the faux deadlines I set for myself are ignored. I set the wake-up alarm for the pleasure of ignoring it. The three pounds I was going to lose last month are with me still, faithful as old dogs. Of course, I’ll have to die on time, by definition. I imagine a deadline means something different to the old hit man than it does to most of us.
