Epiphany

Bolts of lightning. One after the other, followed by a crash, a thud, like an exclamation point added for emphasis. And drumming rain gradually changing to a gentle pitter-patter. Just after midnight, chain saws and shouting. A road crew. Men with hard hats clearing the street, cutting the downed maple that stood at the edge of my property, removing a hundred year’s growth in less than an hour.
