Adelaide B. Shaw

Instant Love

for this child in my womb
does it come from hormones, desire, social conditioning
there is no need to think
it is simply there as quick as conception
growing as the child grows
as we share the same blood, the same nutrients
swelling as I swell
sight unseen, creating a connection, a link
long enough to last a life and beyond

fiftieth birthday
I give him memories
he has forgotten
