Tea Time

Rising from the centre of a pure white table cloth, a silver stand invites, with tiers of sandwiches, fresh scones, creations of sugar and 'all things nice'. Bubbles in our champagne glasses rise between us, catch the light, before the waitress comes to further slake our thirst from a teapot sprigged with petals of wild strawberry and briar rose. A delight that blooms in a winter afternoon, this birthday celebration is my daughter's gift. We savour the cupcakes solely for the soft glisten of their swirls.
