Kites on the Beach

Late in the year, and late in the day, Sol's move toward Thetis' lap brings a chill to the breeze. Beneath their feet, fine sands brush the soles, while the surf tickles their ankles.

Memories from younger days roll in with the waves, days when diving trips filled vacation weeks. Images recalled of rays swimming along the seabed, where refracted light plays along the clams' lips before they snap shut.

invisible lines

"Dad?" the voice pulls his eyes from the sky, his mind from the depths. "It's like you're a million miles away. What're you thinking about?"

"Nothing much, son."
