Another morning, another breakfast at the window beside the birdfeeder. The one he built years ago. The spot where they breakfasted together each day for decades.

The stack of bills lies nearby. She ignores its screams for attention. Just the way she’s ignored the realtors’ calls about eager buyers.

She leans back, and slowly sips her coffee.
