Heidi (1993-2007)

October night. Crisp and clear. No need for a fan. No need for heat. I sit in my swivel rocker typing on my laptop, then pause to look at my two Miniature Schnauzers on the sofa. Heidi, the oldest, has been with me for fourteen years. I notice her once muscular body, now frail and diminished. Some days she no longer jumps on the sofa, but lies at her special place near my feet. On this night, I feel gratitude for her long life and that she has shared my days of autumn.

prayer flags for Heidió
the flutter of paw prints
